Frequently asked questions

Short answers, no hedging. Anything missing, email hello@ria-wire.com.

Where does the data come from?

The SEC's monthly Form ADV extract — the public file every registered investment adviser is required to keep current. We filter it to firms managing $100M-$500M, clean it, and format it so it loads into a CRM without a weekend of work.

How fresh is it?

Each file is built from the SEC's most recent monthly extract. When the SEC posts a new month, we process it and email subscribers a direct download link the same day it's ready.

What exactly do I get each month?

Directory subscribers get one national CSV of every firm in the band, a ZIP with every state pre-cut into its own file, and a pre-analyzed Excel workbook that opens to a Month in Review summary — top AUM gainers and shrinkers, firms new to the file, firms that left — with the full sortable data behind it. Directory + Alerts subscribers also get the crossings file: every firm that moved across $100M or $500M since the prior month's filings, with prior and current AUM side by side.

What columns are in the file?

Firm name, CRD number, SEC number, city, state, postal code, phone, website, regulatory AUM, total accounts, total employees, and the latest ADV filing date — plus three pre-analyzed change columns: a NEW THIS MONTH flag, AUM change in dollars, and AUM change in percent versus the prior month's filing.

Do I need to be a spreadsheet person?

No. The Excel workbook arrives already analyzed: open it and the first tab is the Month in Review — who's new, who's gone, and the month's biggest AUM movers — no formulas, no pivot tables. The raw CSV is there for your CRM; the workbook is there for your eyes.

Can I load it into my CRM?

Yes. It's a plain CSV with clean headers — Salesforce, HubSpot, Excel, Google Sheets, anything that reads a CSV reads this.

Is there a contract?

The only contract we offer is the monthly subscription. Cancel any time.

What's the guarantee?

Use RIA Wire for 90 days. If it hasn't earned its keep, email us and we'll refund every dollar you've paid — and any free reports that came with your subscription are yours to keep.

How do I cancel?

From your account, any time, in a couple of clicks. No phone call, no retention script.

Couldn't I just download this from the SEC myself?

Yes — the SEC gives the raw file away, and we'd never pretend otherwise. What you'd spend is a weekend every month turning tens of thousands of messy records into a call list. We do that part; you do the part that pays you.

Who is this for?

People who sell to advisers: fund wholesalers, fintech vendors, recruiters, insurance marketers. If your buyer is an RIA principal, this is your prospect list.
